California, here I come! (JK)

My list was made up of mostly TX and CA, likely due to my love of the beach and tolerance of the heat among other things. Not surprising, Big D was high on my list.

This got me thinking about Dallas. As a native, I've never really been able to explain to others why Dallas is an excellent place to live and work. I think it's a subtle combination of things: mild weather (unrelenting heat trumps ruthless cold), decent cost of living, good professional sports (although I think our fans are lame compared to the Northeast's!), strong job opporutnities, big airport access, cultural arts, and big city sophistication.

My liberal West Coast friends moved here last year from San Fran kicking and screaming into "Bush Country" but, in the end, cheaper cost of living and job opportunities won out. They're happy to be here, except in Jul-Aug.

Thanks for the link...interesting stuff.

I read an interesting article today this morning that I thought was approriate to share.

Texas was the top destination for Americans on the move for the second year in a row, according to an Atlas Van Lines Study of 100,000 shipments of household goods.

The moving company delievered 9,714 shipments to Texas last year up about 2% from 2005.

They said that people are leaving large population centers in the Northeast and the hurricane stricken dep south. They are moving to places like Washington, D.C., Oregon, Noth Carolina and Texas.

Also in the article it mentioned that New Yorkers have continued a 12 year trend of flocking toward warmer clients, and a significant number of Californians headed to Washington, D.C., and San Antonio.

Interesting stuff for sure!

Very interesting! I really enjoyed taking this quiz wondering the whole time what places would be recommended to me. Norfolk, Virginia - the home of my employers headquarters was #1. That was a surprise. Also surprising - It showed Texas many including Dallas. I have loved visiting - I always thought it was the people I was visiting - guess not :-)

Merrill, fun to do. I would have expected more major cities to come up.Only NYC popped up.Lots of Texas and NC and Virginia cities. Very interestingly Greenville, NC came up which is where 3 of my daughters went to school and 2 currently have families and live there.

Of all of the cities listed would only consider Norfolk, Va. Beach, NYC and of course Greenville, NC

Interesting - I live in Chicago and my number one place was Saint Louis. The two states that were listed heavily were Ohio (and yes, one place was Toledo) and North Carolina.

I absolutely love Chicago and it did not list that as one of the cities, but it did list Manhattan.

It was a fun quiz though.

That was fun. My list was nearly ALL northeast...must have been my strong dislike for the Texas heat!

Prior to moving to Dallas seven years ago a Texas town would not have made the list. Now after five moves around the country our hardest move will be when we leave the Dallas area. Several Texas cities were on the list and a majority in the south central, southeast, and south. It definitely refected my preferences. Now that was my list and I am sure my lovely wife might have a different result. Probably explains why we are moving back to Denver upon retirement, which did not make the top 25. Fun quiz.

Ironically enough, Dallas was one of my top cities. Therefore, I guess I moved to the right place. Actually, the interesting part is that Seattle (my previous home) was also one of the top ones. Along with Dallas, there were 5 other Texas cities, so I guess the numbers have it since I didn't see any other Washington options. It looks like I'm calling Texas home, even though I never dreamed I would like it as much as I do.

Very interesting, as I stressed that I did not like humidity and preferred the PNW to live, but both Washington DC and Little Rock, Arkansas were listed.
