I Would Bet this Award Would Look Great in Your Office
When I go into my home office, one of the first things I see is my 1970 Baseball Peanut Champs Trophy. Yes I still have the trophy! Yes the trophy is 25 years old! You can stop laughing now. Like most, I like to win trophies and awards. To me it usually represents a team coming together and accomplishing a goal. And the trophy or award usually represents a lot of hard work.
The 2007 EXPLOR Award honors exemplary performance and leadership in online research, showcasing innovative uses in both qualitative and quantitative methods. The award started in 1999 and some of the past winners and finalists include highly regarded companies such as Intel, Hershey, IBM, Unilever, Honeywell, Masterfoods USA, Frito-Lay, and Eli Lilly & Co. In 2006, the EXPLOR Award honored Frito-Lay and research partner, Decision Insight for “Virtual Ethnography.”
Two key elements of EXPLOR are:
The award honors the most innovative applications of technology within all contexts of research.
- Award entries may be submitted by either research companies or client organizations, as long as they highlight a client-specific research application and are presented by the client.
Applications are reviewed by an expert judging committee and the top four award finalists will be chosen to present at the AMA’s Annual Marketing Research Conference in Las Vegas, NV, in September 2007. All finalists will be honored with a beautiful piano wood plaque and recognition. The exquisite Lundberg glass globe trophy will be awarded to the top winner which will look great in your office and no doubt look better than my 1970 Baseball Peanut Champs Trophy.
The deadline is only 26 days away. Entries are due no later than February 28, 2007. Entry forms are available at

Merrill:
Thanks for promoting the EXPLOR Award! I have been involved with EXPLOR for 5 years, currently acting as Chair of the Judging Committee. I have enjoyed every minute of it and want to encourage your readers to consider applying this year. (We need these in soon!)
I have been involved in online research since the late 90’s (I as at CRI at the time) and remember when we couldn’t give the stuff away! The first year we sold 10 studies–yes only 10 studies and within 3 years, it was a third of our business! Now I work for a firm the whole business is online oriented.
The EXPLOR applications represent some of the best uses of online research, combining new methods with technology. We have seen new uses for Conjoint/DCM. virtual shopping for pricing, Virtual enthnography, web site evaluation and community interactions. I believe the finalists and winners are making a difference in their organizations. The other great benefit for me is that I get to meet some very smart people in this industry.
If anyone has a question about EXPLOR, I would be happy to talk with your readership in more depth.
Thanks again.
Beth

As the 2006 winner of the AMA Explor Award, Frito-Lay could not be prouder to have won this award! In fact, we had two nominations this year which has been a great motivator to the Frito-Lay Consumer Strategy and Insights Department. We pride ourselves on our innovative research techniques and are constantly on the look-out for the tools and techniques that will help us better understand consumers and what their needs are.
Our company released a press release about winning this award, which made us all extremely proud! I recommend you submit your nomination for this award! The return on investment (your time) will definitely pay off! Good Luck!! We look forward to seeing the great submissions this year!

Northwestern Memorial Hospital won this award back in 2002, at that time, internet research was still new enough that there was a conference devoted to on-line research. It’s been interesting watching it evolve over the past few years, and a pleasure sitting on the judging committee for a few of the more recent award cycles.
Northwestern Memorial continually strives to improve its products and services, and being recognized for the innovations it offers the marketplace was both validating and an honor.
I have been in research for many years now, and it’s been very rewarding working at a healthcare organization that leads the charge in the way it keeps it’s promise to bring the “best patient experinence” to it’s consumers. Additionally, my professional profile has been escalated at Northwestern Memorial, since bringing home the Explor award. I encourage everyone to submit an application, as the payback is big, not only for the organizations that apply, but for those with the vision to know when their company is doing something on the cutting edge.
