Dynamic Duos
| There are so many great single acts. But what about dynamic duos? In some ways Batman & Robin have already coined that phrase, but who is your favorite dynamic duo? Was it:
This list is just a start. For me I think Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz were the best. They were great on TV – although I must admit the worst actor could have played opposite Lucille Ball and she would have made them look great. They were married for 20 years and also had Desilu Studios together. I loved her wit, facial expressions and humor and it matched great with Desi’s dry sense of humor and accent. What a great DYNAMIC DUO! I have left off many and look forward to hearing your choices and comments. |

Merrill,
You seem to agree with my contention that Lucille Ball was half of a great comedy team. She was never as funny as when she had Desi to play off of (Gale Gordon not withstanding).
Other favorite duos:
Toody and Muldoon (from “Car 54 Where Are You?”)
George Burns and Gracie Allen (George was never as funny without her)
Grouch Marx and Margaret Dumont (Dumont played the old dowager in many classic Marx Brothers movies and stage plays and was the perfect foil for Grouch o’s quick wit. Supposedly, she never understood the meaning of his double-entendres.)
Sean Connery and Michael Caine in “The Man Who Would Be King”
Nicholas Pegg and Nick Frost in “Hot Fuzz” and “Sean of the Dead”, the first great comedy team of the 21st century.
Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn who could match each other word for word.
Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee from all those great old Hammer Horror films.
And from the world of sports:
Nomar Garciapara and Mia Hamm (the perfect couple!)
Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, their friendly competition fueled their greatness. Would Michael Jordan have been even better if he had someone who was his equal to challenge him?

And one more:
Cartman and Butters

For those who relate to the slackers of the world…
Bob & Doug McKenzie (Good day…eh)
Bill & Ted (How can you forget Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure…Excellent!)
Wayne & Garth (Wayne’s World…Wayne’s World…Party Time…Excellent!)
Lloyd Christmas & Harry Dunne (Dumb & Dumber… I expected the Rocky
Mountains to be a little rockier than this)
And the Utah nod…
John Stockton & Karl Malone (Jazz)

I’m still getting alot out of my favorite dynamic duo,
Lennon & McCartney.
And, of course, I still love all the Beatles, George, Ringo,
George Martin, Pete Best, Murray the K… all the many 5th Beatles.
But, the biggest part of that creative juggernaut of joy was
the songwriting core, their competitiveness, their brotherhood…
it was John and Paul, or in fairness, Paul and John.
Still amazing music and spirit, since 1964, when Paul turned 64
and when I’m 64 and beyond.
Never contemplated them in capes or tights, though.
Thanks for the very fun prompt.
