1. Criminal Minds because I might grow up to be a serial killer and want to know how to avoid the law.

2. Survivor because we have an office pool for every show – 10 people get two players = $10 entry – I am out $50 and counting!

3. Squawkbox so I can see how much money I am going to lose in the market each day

My favorites are: House, Barefoot Contessa (cooking show) and my new one, The Good Wife.
Sorry Merrill, but I hate THE Office…I guess I don’t get that humor, and I can’t stand Steve Carrell.
I think what bothers me most about all the family sitcoms today is all the fathers have characters that seem to be portrayed as idiots…certainly not good role models. There hasn’t been a good ‘father figure” since Bill Cosby.
That’s my soapbox.

Our top three shows are:1) NCIS 2) Bones 3) Castle & Mentalist tied. We are not much into reality shows. We do like clever dialogue, interesting characters who play off each other and good story lines.

If I could vote for cancelled shows, Arrested Development would top the list. Current favorites, prioritized…

1. Modern Family. Head & shoulders above the rest, IMHO.

2. 30 Rock. Too funny, especially for someone that used to work at GE.

3. The Office. I’m still a fan, thought the marriage/baby storyline make me think it may have jumped the shark…

So I don’t have a TV signal of any kind at home. But when I get out on the road I can’t stop watching reruns of NCIS and Law & Order, regardless of the version. Every once in a while I’ll watch Parks & Recreation or 30 Rock on Hulu. My wife is a huge Grey’s Anatomy fan, so I end up watching it as well, but we are a season behind because we watch the DVDs on netflix. There isn’t anything that I can’t live without. We gave up commercial TV about 10 years ago, so of course I miss sports the most.

I had to ponder this one all day which made me realize that I probably watch too much TV. Though as John Joseph says above, it is a form of escapism. I love so many shows. I had to think of the ones I am sad about when they are removed from the DVR before I get to see them:
Gossip Girl
CSI (las vegas)
Top Chef

However I love that the sitcom is back in style! How I met your mother and big bang are fantastic! And that new parenthood show so far has been great but can’t put it on the list since there have only been two episodes.
Why only 3 merrill!!!

Well, I now know that I watch too much reality TV. Oh well.

1 – The Amazing Race. The countries are beautiful and the characters are fun.

2 – Survivor. Again, the countries are beautiful and the characters are fun. I also like working through the strategy.

3 – Criminal Minds OR Mentalist OR Law & Order SVU – Any one of those.

One problem I have in picking three shows is that some of my favorites are cable series that only have 12-16 episodes in a season. So when they’re on I’m totally hooked on Mad Men, True Blood and South Park.

But my top 3 for “regular, year-long” series are
1. The Office
2. 30 Rock
3. How I Met Your Mother
all of which, I think, consistently bring the funny.

Most mainstream network TV in the evenings is a form of escapism and relaxation so I would never think of critiquing anyone’s viewing habits. My own favorite shows are “24″ , Law and Order reruns on TNT and Bones.
