Time To Go Shopping In A Wal-Mart In China. What Are You Buying?

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

In the last 4 years I have gotten a tremendous amount of emails and topics for blogs. I must admit I really enjoyed looking at what is being sold at a Wal-Mart in China. I must admit I am fascinated with different cultures.

So get ready, sit back and look at 9 different items that are being sold at a Wal-Mart in China:

Crocodiles

Bulk Rice

Mixed Meat for the Choosing

Orange Juice and Cooking Oil

Wal-Mart Brand Spirits

Rib Cages

Beautiful Boxes of Liquor

A Large Selection of Chopsticks

Diet Water

I hope you found that very interesting. I did for sure! A number of things. I was surprised that they sell orange juice and cooking oil together? In fact it looks like they sell them as a package. The different style of chopsticks was very cool as was the beautiful boxes that Liquor comes in. Ok I also will be the first to admit the crocodiles scared me a little bit.

  • What did you think?

  • What are you buying?

  • Have you been to a Wal-Mart in China?

  • If so, what was the experience like?

A Blog About What? Prisoners? Are You Kidding Me?

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

For over six years I have lived in the great state of Texas. Recently there have a been a few stories that involved prisons that I didn’t fully understand why they couldn’t find easy solutions.

The first one was that inmates are somehow getting cell phones in prison. These devices are being smuggled in and in a few cases have been used to commit crimes on the outside including homicides. Clearly I am NOT a detective or a martial arts expert. I would imagine that a cell phone somehow some way can be used as a weapon against the guards or fellow inmates. Also they could make calls (until the battery runs out) and plan a breakout or another crime.

Solution – Don’t they have metal detectors that would easily detect them? Also even if they get past the metal detector isn’t there some type of jamming device that would not allow these prisoners to use the cell phones. I understand that the guards wouldn’t be able to use their cell phone but maybe that would help with issue number two.

The second issue I have been seeing on TV and reading about is all of the prison breaks that have happened in Texas. Most of these prisoners are in prison for life and have little to no chance of getting out unless they escape which is what lots of them are doing and in one case they got out and murdered a couple a few days after breaking out.

Solution – why don’t all prisoners everywhere who are in for life get some type of tracking device put on them or inserted in them. Ok the inserted wouldn’t work because there would be a ton of backlash but why not a light ankle bracelet?

Just my two cents.

I realize that this might be a controversial subject and people might not be comfortable providing a comment but I hope some will.

  • What do you think?

  • What do you think of my solutions?

  • Any other ideas for the great state of Texas?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Can Bloggers Be More Influential Than Friends?

Friday, November 5th, 2010

I just finished reading an article that was published in WOMMA (Word of Mouth Marketing Association) that said bloggers can be more influential than friends. I started to think about it a little bit and realized since I am a blogger and have been for:

  • 223 weeks

  • Written over 630 posts

  • Received almost 11,000 comments

  • From over 1400 people

When I think about that and the subject of this blog I ask myself do I influence people and if so then how?

So I ask you as a blogger:

  • Do I influence you?

  • How have I influenced you?

  • Did my post make you look at a situation different?

  • Are you now going to a restaurant or shopping somewhere different because of something I said?

  • Do you have any business advice or takeaways that helped you deal with a situation?

  • Have any posts helped you with your career?

  • Did you read something that helped you get a new client?

I really look forward to hearing from you with your comments.

Which Is Your Favorite Chalk Picture?

Friday, October 15th, 2010

I must admit I have a great amount of respect for artists. One of the main reasons is I can’t draw, really don’t have a great eye to take pictures and frankly don’t have a ton of artistic talent in my body. I got this email with a number of pictures that I thought I would share with you. They are all drawn on the sidewalk and with CHALK! One of the keys is this artist, Edgar Mueller, is so talented that his pictures are in 3D!

All of these pictures are amazing but my favorite two are the shark (Jaws) coming out of the bricks and the flooded street. The attention to detail is amazing to me! They both look real and frankly I am a little scared of the shark one!

  • Which one is your favorite?

  • Where are some of your favorite places to see artists painting or creating?

I really look forward to reading your comments.

Attention Car Lovers – What Do You Think Of This Car?

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Here is a number of pictures of the new Mercedes Benz SCL600

From the outside it looks slick, beautiful and like a few other cars.

Ok a little different since the doors go up instead of out!

Trunk is kind of cool – I hope I can get my golf clubs in there!

WOW – now that looks real different!!!

No Steering Wheel and NO Pedals!!

You drive this car with a joystick

Considering my kids beat me in every video game we play I might be in trouble!

  • What do you think of this car?

  • Do you like the concept?

  • Have you test driven it?

  • How long do you think it will take you to learn how to drive this car?

Ok I Will Admit It. I Have A Vanity Plate On My Car . . . What About You?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

I used to play tennis with a good friend of mine (JL) in Boston and always admired her license plate. It read WEIT. I knew it was a vanity plate but could never figure out what it meant until I asked her. It stood for WHAT EVER IT TAKES. She was in the customer service business and wanted her plate to be a constant reminder to always go above and beyond for her clients.

I have a vanity plate and although it means something special to me it isn’t as deep as WEIT. Mine is SOX07. For those who know me well, you know it stands for Red Sox 2007 which is the last time they won the World Series.

Here are some of the ones I have seen over the years:

  • 4sakn

  • Ddysgrl

  • MyToy

  • Was His

  • I CUFF UM

  • DRTHVDR

  • Gore Won

  • BKRPTCY

  • KIDLESS

  • Il Sue U

  • Blogger

I thought some of the ones I have seen were cute and funny.

  • Do you have a vanity plate?

  • What do you think of the ones I listed?

  • Do you like mine?

  • What are some of the ones you have seen over the years?

What Is Your Favorite Building You Have Ever Been In?

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Last month the Burj Dubai opened its doors for the first time as the tallest building in the world. This structure stands at 2,684 feet – yes you heard that number correctly. I was totally amazed at how big it is certainly, but was really amazed and impressed that it is 955 feet taller than the world’s second tallest building–which is the Willis Tower in Chicago.

I started to think about buildings and structures and think about what are some of the coolest/nicest/most beautiful that I have ever been in.

Here are a few that I have on my list:

  • The Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco is not only a beautiful structure but the view from the top floors is amazing.

  • The John Hancock Building. I truly love the structure and the fact that it towers above Lake Michigan. The views from the observatory are very special.

  • A few buildings that really aren’t that tall but I enjoy going to are The Wrigley Building in Chicago and St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. I love the architecture and attention to detail that both buildings pose.

Now your turn:

  • What is the tallest building you have ever been in?

  • What building has the nicest view from the top floor?

  • What are some of your favorite buildings for architecture?

I look forward to reading your comments.

Would You Sign Up For This New Channel On TV?

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Like most of you I travel a fair amount. Like most of you I have kids that are getting older and their schedules are challenging to keep up with. In essence, life is more complicated than ever with trying to juggle everything and ensure that everyone is where they need to be at the exact time.

Can’t the TV help with this? I think so, and this is what I am proposing.

A new TV channel that customizes your schedule on TV so everyone in the house can see what is going on and when. Almost Microsoft Outlook on TV.  Think about it as an easy way to input all of the kids’ activities, travel schedule and many other things. How cool would it be if your eight-year-old got up and turned on the TV to see not only his schedule for the day but everyone else’s in the house?

I think pretty cool.

  • Am I crazy?

  • Do you think this is a good idea?

  • Would you pay $10.00 month for this service?

  • If not what would you pay?

  • What other features would this new service have?

I look forward to reading your comments.

Ok. It Was Black Friday–The Biggest Shopping Day Of The Year. What Did You Buy?

Monday, December 7th, 2009

They say that the biggest shopping day of the year is always the day after Thanksgiving. I guess it is the official first day of the holiday season. Everything appears to be on sale and customers line up for hours for the big sales. Sometimes people are so emotional it can even get foolish and have a fight break out over an item on sale.

Retail stores are very creative these days and serving coffee while people are in line and opening at some really, really early times. I have gone out in the past, but this year I was at my sister’s and didn’t have a chance to go out.

I have so many questions:

  • Do you look forward to Black Friday?

  • Did you go out this year?

  • Were the sales better than in the years past?

  • What did you buy?

  • Who had the best sales?

  • What store had the best promotions?

I look forward to reading your comments.

Do You Google Or Bing?

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

I have been using Google for a very long time. I do like the search feature and frankly never thought of using anything else . . . until now. For several years now, my home page has been Excite. In the upper left-hand corner both Google and Bing appear and I must admit after seeing Bing there for a while, and after a few friends recommend it I am using Bing a little bit. While I do find some of the searches more robust and on target I don’t use Bing all the time. I do find myself out of habit using old reliable Google.

  • What do you use?

  • Have you tried Bing?

  • What differences do you notice?

  • Do you use Google for some things and Bing for others?

I look forward to reading your comments.
