Attention Researchers Check Out These Words That People Are Using To Describe Market Research

Monday, April 4th, 2011

I was having a conversation with a few people and we were discussing the market research industry. For some reason during the discussion my mind wandered a little bit and I became very curious on what words people would use to describe market research and marketing. Quickly I emailed 12 of my contacts to ask them that exact question: Please email me the first three words that come into your mind regarding market research. I then emailed another 12 contacts and asked them to please email me the first three words that came into their mind regarding marketing.

To me the results were very interesting and compelling. There were some common themes and here are the results:

Data Integration
Quality Results
Opinions Branding
Accuracy Targeting
Methodical Positioning
Accurate Strategy
Crazy Critical
Surveys Believable
Inquisitive Relevant
Curious Viral

When I take a step back and look at the list a few things are clear.

  • I like the marketing words BETTER than the words for market research!
  • I believe the words for marketing create MORE value to the end user than the research words do!

  • As a researcher how do you like our words?
  • Which list do you like better?
  • What can and should the research community do to differently moving forward?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Sorry NY Yankee Fans Your Team ISN’T Making The Playoffs In 2011

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Yes it is April 1 and no this isn’t an April Fool’s joke! If you are a NY Yankee fan I am sure the subject of this posting got you all riled up and you CAN’T wait to respond but it is true the NY Yankees, your team, will NOT, I repeat, will NOT make the playoffs in 2011!

If you want to say fine, Merrill always says that – that just isn’t true. While I do dislike the Bronx bombers I have NEVER recently (past 10 years) believed or said they wouldn’t make the playoffs. This year is different – and here is why:

  1. Having Ivan Nova and Freddie Garcia in your starting rotation seems funny like someone is playing on joke on the Yankee fans – well they are not and they are in the starting rotation.
  2. Your stars are old. Jeter was great, he isn’t worth the $$$ and is a fraction of his former self – the same is true about Posada
  3. AROD – has a hip problem – I don’t care what the Yankees or AROD report he has a problem with his hip and because of that his swing is dramatically affected. Also the days of him going yard 40+ times are over
  4. No Andy Pettitte – he is a money pitcher and could handle NY. FYI – I truly believe he isn’t pitching this year because he didn’t want to bring the Roger Clemens trial circus into the NY Yankee locker room
  5. Joba – really isn’t that good! He was a one year wonder
  6. AJ Burnett can’t pitch in NY – he is a good pitcher not great. Had a big year when he was headed for free agency. He doesn’t have the repertoire and mental game to pitch in NY
  7. They will have a ton of injuries this year! Mark my words they will have lots of little nagging injuries and all that will catch up to them this year.

So there you go. I will say it again the NY Yankees don’t make the playoffs in 2011 and Joe Girardi may not hold onto his job.

  • What do you think of my prediction?
  • AJ/Steve/Jennie/Jeffrey what are your thoughts?

I look forward to hearing from you.
