A few weeks ago, A.S. and I were visiting my parents and I noticed a cute little saying that was framed in my parents’ house. It stated, “No home is complete without the… Tap tap tap of doggie feet”.
Of course it made me “paws” (no pun intended) for a minute and I asked myself if I agreed with the statement. Growing up we always had a dog. Whether it was Peppy, Princess, Duchess or JD, one thing was always for sure – we loved to have a dog running around. They were always loving and so much fun. We really enjoyed teaching them new tricks.
My parents still have a dog — a cute little Bijon that is very loveable and pretty much wants to sit in your lap 24/7. At this point we don’t have a dog, but who knows? That might change down the road because as the little saying goes, “No home is complete without the… Tap tap tap of doggie feet”.
- Do you agree with the little saying?
- What is the favorite dog you ever had?
- Are you a dog or cat person?
I look forward to reading your comments.

ABSOLUTELY AGREE!! Last month we lost our 16-year old Ike, and after two weeks of not being greeted with a wagging tail and cold nose when I walked in the door, I couldn’t stand it. We recently welcomed Tally (terrier/spaniel mix) from a rescue shelter and Hamish (retired racing greyhound) into our home and we are once again complete. They are both couch potatoes and would prefer to be on someone’s lap than anywhere else. (A bit of a challenge with the 70 pound grey!) In Atlanta alone, there are more than 150K dogs waiting to be rescued from shelters and foster homes. Annually, there are about 30K greyhounds retired from racing – 16K are adopted and 14K are put down. Please consider adopting a rescue!!!

Yup, I totally agree. Mr. Enzo, my 12 year old basenji is getting up there in age. He is my first dog and my best friend, I don’t know what I would do without him. Well, I guess I’d get another dog ….

5 years ago I might have said no, but now we have a 3 year old F1 Labradoodle. No shedding which is awesome, but VERY much part of the family. If kids are involved, I can’t imagine not having her around!

Hi Merrill,
Yup, I tend to agree. the “tap, tap, tap…” certainly adds a whole dimension to existence in a home, that otherwise would not exist.
I had a doberman Rashid, for over 13 years and he was a lap dog, in every sense of the word. His greetings and good cheer, were always welcome, no matter what mood I showed up with!
The other element he added was a sense of security. Though he was the kindest creature on the planet, his existence gave me a sense of not being alone as well as the element of safety, I envisioned. He was a confidant, a companion and a presence, all wrapped into one.
Now living in an apartment, where I’m not allowed pets, it’s just not the same.
I feel that “complete” is a good word, for a pet.

Agree completely. I am a dog person since I was a little girl. Our family raised several litters of puppies, which I am sure why I love them so much now. For the last 25 or so years, I have been without a dog only 2 of those years. Our current is Tucker, a Weimaraner we rescued 3 years ago. He is a 90 pound lap dog and the best pet ever. I cannot imagine not having him greet me at the door when I get home. I’m ready for another pet but hubby is not, soI am working on him.
With luck, maybe next year.

AGREE! I got my very first dog 3.5 years ago, Remmington. We adopted his sister, the Copter a year later. I would say we are the proud owners of two wonderful Bernese Mt. Dogs but we cannot say this any longer.
Yesterday we went to pick up our 8 week old Berner (Short for Bernese Mt. Dog) male puppy already named Winchester Blue III. We came home with Win and his sister “No Name” yesterday afternoon.
We are looking for a name for the female! If you have a suggestion, let us know.
We now have four Bernese Mt. Dogs. They are the MOST amazing breed. They are great with humans, they are human dogs. They are so smart and trainable. They are majestic! You can only have a Berner if you have a huge amount of love and are outgoing. You can’t go down the street without being stopped for photo ops, love, loves and pet, pets! They are people magnets.
Our family of four just became a family of seven with the addition of the two puppies and my husbands niece, Kelly (AKA Speckles) who is now living with us and finishing up her last three years of high school.
Am I nuts? Four dogs, two of which are puppies and a soon to be 16 year old. Crazy Love!
So I say…
No outfit is complete without dog hair!
Everything taste better with a little dog hair!
Shed Happens!

My wife and I have been “cat people” for the last 26 years and we would endorse the statement from a feline P.O.V. Currently we have 4 and have had as many as 6 at one time. The statement “dogs have owners, while cats have staff” is ever so true at our house…errr “their house”.
Having pets is a must. If you have kids, as pet ownership teaches them so many valuable life lessons that will prepare them for adulthood. If you do not have kids in your household, then you always have someone who will listen to you after a long day at the office and will provide unconditional love.

People who know me know I can’t stop talking about my dogs, two Golden Retrievers: Scooby (named by my daughters) and Fenway (named by me BTW Fenway’s command to sit is “Fenway, park.”).
The dogs for me are an instant cure for the blues. When I’m feeling down, all I have to do is drop the top on my 93 Mustang Convertible, put the dogs in it and go for a ride. Never fails, within 3 blocks people we don’t know are waving to us, cars are pulling up beside us and everyone is happy. And Goldens are so relentlessly happy that they won’t let you feel down. They are a very important part of our family.

I also have a Bijon Frise named Zoe!!! As I type this message she is sitting on my lap. What I love most about having an animal is that they provide unconditional love and are with you in good times and bad. They are also soooooo happy to see you when you come home, even if you have only been gone for ten minutes!!!
The only down side is when you travel a lot and have to find people to take care of them. Sometimes I don’t think it is fair to leave her so often.
