I must admit, over the past year I have watched a lot of videos. For me, this is one of the most impactful videos I have ever watched and I wanted to share it today. The video is about 2 ½ minutes long and I truly believe worth the time investment.
After you finish watching, I’d love to know:
- What are the first thoughts that come to your mind?
- Have you ever heard of sledge hockey?
- Was it impactful?
- Did you get a little misty eyed?
I hope you watched the video and will share your comments. Thanks in advance.

Great inspirational video, Merrill. I didn’t get so teary-eyed on this one, but it was terrific, nonetheless. I hope that this goes on all the time, and we only see a fraction of those videos that capture these special moments.
Similarly, on 60 Minutes just a few days ago, there was an amazing segment on similar individuals who climbed one of the toughest mountains that exist – it was actually I think part of a particular “treatment” to empower. Here’s a link to that clip: http://www.cbs.com/shows/60_minutes/video/2GR8FRshvIG4AHYaUR5htLi5oaXZ2kFI/conquering-the-impossible/
As a side note, the other clips on the pot industry in Colorado and Obamacare were also very good that night, but I digress.

How inspirational is this? Wow! Yes, it did create some tears for me. It makes me feel grateful for what I have and what I can do. It puts things into perspective and shows the importance of perseverance and strength. “Where there is a will there is a way!” Kudos, also, to the pro hockey players who spent the time with these guys and were able to realize how amazing the sledge hockey players were.
There should be more of these stories put on by the media to try and offset some of the gloom and sadness in this world. I’m sure these inspirational stories would definitely outweigh the bad ones. Just an idea, but I think everyone should look for an inspirational story and post it, perhaps on to Facebook. I’ll even start it off.

Hi Merrill,
My first thoughts were, no way!
Yes, I’ve known about this sport and I truly commend these athletes for stepping up and not giving up on the sport they love, deposits their situations.
I further acknowledge the all star players that were grounded enough to say this is the sport we love and despite the challenges we want to experience it as the sledgers do.
No misty eyes just a huge smile for the tenacity of human kind! BRAVO!

I got a little misty eyed and then I thought, how come I don’t see any Blackhawk jerseys?

WOW!!! How wonderful that there are folks willing to help/work with those who are less fortunate.
Never heard of Sledge Hockey.
It was very impact-full and I will be sending this video to all my hockey player, coaches and fans.
You bet I got misty eyed.
Jeff Adler says:
This past year, there was a lot of media coverage on negative events involving star athletes – e.g. Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson. It was great to see these hockey stars volunteering to do something positive for the less fortunate (I presume it was a volunteer effort – but still a positive influence even if Gatorade paid them). I wish the popular media would cover more stories like this one. I would much rather see this than see Ray Rice punch his fiancée in an elevator.
Matt O'Mara says:
Hockey players are the best — even Sydney Crosby 🙂 I’ve been fortunate to get to know a couple of the players from the Red Wings, and I can tell you that they are the most humble and decent guys you would ever want to meet. I’m convinced it’s because they mostly come from small towns (in Canada, Sweden, Russia, and the US).
Loved the video. Thank you for sharing.
Tom Mularz says:
Great video, Merrill!
I didn’t see Sidney Crosby whine at all in the film, although he did flop a few times as usual!
Magda Cooling says:
Loved it! I grew up Figure Skating – keeping the edge with precise balance is one thing but keeping your balance with your butt & leg muscles? That’s awesome, lol! I’d like to try that! =)
Alan Lampert says:
What an awesome video. Truly inspiring. Reminded me a little of Whirleyball!
Scott says:
That is a truly amazing video, and is great to see that not all athletes are bums…like the media tends to market. I remember seeing something about sledge hockey a while ago, but can’t remember what I was watching.
It’s also great to see these professional hockey spin out on the ice they are normally so at home on. Thanks for sharing Merrill!
