Attention Delta Airlines! We Owe You an Apology…and Perhaps Some $$$

Friday, March 27th, 2015

Last month I was visiting my parents in Florida and the house was a little chilly so I noticed my sister had a red blanket on her while she was reading her Nook. I’m sure you are thinking that this sounds pretty ordinary and normally it would have been…except: I noticed a logo and name on the blanket. The blanket was clearly marked “Delta Airlines”. At first I smiled then openly chuckled and then I couldn’t believe that one of my family members took, “borrowed” or forgot to return a Delta Airlines blanket from a plane. Seriously I can’t make this up! I have flown over 2,000,000 miles on American Airlines and yes they have said, “by all means, take the earplugs” but I don’t recall them saying “take the blankets!” I must always be sleeping during this announcement!

I think it’s time to mix it up and I need your help

  • What is the funniest item that you know was “borrowed” from somewhere?
  • Without mentioning names…do you have a family member or friend who likes to take things they maybe shouldn’t take?

PS: Delta Airlines, on behalf of my family, I am terribly sorry and embarrassed. Please know that I am backing a full investigation into which of my family members could be responsible for this!

On Which College Campus Was This Movie Filmed?

Wednesday, March 25th, 2015

Do you ever watch a movie and try to figure out where the movie was filmed? Well, I do that all the time and I’m always curious on where movies are filmed especially when it comes to colleges and universities.
Today’s quiz might be one of my all-time favorite blog posts. I truly hope you have as much fun with it as I did.

As always, the quiz will be timed so no need to get any help from friends or the internet. The answers will be posted in a few weeks.

Waiting For a Table…I Say No to Giving Me a Buzzer…Yes to New Technology!

Monday, March 23rd, 2015

A few weeks ago I was having dinner with my sister and cousins in Florida. While we were outside talking, my cousin said, “Ok we are all set” I looked at him and asked, “How do you know? Are you a mind reader?” to which he replied, “No I just got a text from them saying our table is ready.”

I think this is brilliant for so many reasons!

  1. Why not use the technology of today as opposed to a buzzer?!
  2. I am the only person using my phone as opposed to a buzzer that everyone has touched!
  3. My cell phone has better range than a buzzer which would allow me to perhaps go shopping/browse while I am waiting
  4. Strategically, this allows them to communicate with their customers (done the right way ) after they leave. They can do this with a short survey, coupon or a message that we miss you!

I really think this is brilliant and I haven’t seen it used in any other restaurants.

  • What do you think?
  • Does this concept make sense to you?
  • Would you rather get a text than hold a buzzer?
  • Have you used this technology in any other restaurants?

I look forward to reading your comments.

This is a GREAT Offer From American Express

Friday, March 20th, 2015

Like you, I get a ton of email. A lot of it is spam and unnecessary email but once in a while I get an email that is a pleasant surprise and this one from American Express was one of them. A few weeks ago they included in my American Express Business Card 10 internet passes to GOGO. I use GOGO often, I’m familiar with the cost and quickly realized they were giving me a $150 gift for a card I love and a service (GOGO) I use. At first I was a little hesitant to sign up but I did it all in about 30 seconds and the free passes are in my account. I can’t wait to use it on tomorrow’s flight

  • Did you get this offer?
  • If you had gotten this offer, would you have used them?
  • Have you received any other great perks from credit card companies recently?

I look forward to reading your comments.

Mark Zuckerberg Has Good Hiring Advice…Do You Like It?

Monday, March 16th, 2015

A few weeks ago I was reading an article on Mark Zuckerberg, who when asked what he looks for in a prospective employee, the Facebook founder said: “I will only hire someone to work directly for me if I would work for that person.”

He said, “It’s a pretty good test and I think this rule has served me well.”

I thought about it for a few minutes and I really like that advice. To me, it seems logical and I will try and put that into practice.

  • What do you think of Mark Zuckerberg’s advice?
  • Do you have other best practice tips for hiring your direct reports?

I look forward to reading your comments.

Do You Workout? I Need Your Help!

Monday, March 9th, 2015

For the past 10+ years I have been basically working out the same way every week. For cardio I use the treadmill about 36 minutes a day 5 times a week and do a mix of walking/running during that time, moving from a speed of 4.5-8.3 at an incline of 5.0.

When I do weights it is usually: 3 reps of 15 on 6 different machines. The machines are for legs, arms and chest.

I think it’s time to mix it up and I need your help

  • Should I be doing push-ups? Sit-ups?
  • Any specific exercises that you love to do that work on your core?
  • Should I start incorporating spinning or yoga?

I really look forward to reading your comments and incorporating some new ideas into my routine!
