What do all these places have in common? The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Getty Center in Los Angeles, the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington DC, The Kentucky Derby, and Yankee Stadium?
Give up? None of these places allow you to bring in and use a selfie stick! The have all imposed a ban on the gadgets over safety concerns. The safety concern represents a potential risk to damaging the art or potentially hitting someone. Over the past few months more and more people are using selfie sticks. Because of safety concerns is this a trend that will be short lived and go away?
- Do you agree with this decision?
- Do you like selfie sticks?
- Do you own a selfie stick?
I look forward to reading your comments!
Michael Halberstam says:
Agree 100%. don’t own one. Never will.
Ed Sugar says:
Sorry I am “old school” on this. If you and your posse are out in public at a popular venue and just need a group photo to capture that special moment, geez do what people have done for the last 75 years; ask a stranger to take the snap of ya’ll.
Make sure they take at least two or three just in case of operator error.
Heck, you most likely will end of with a better photo and ya might even end up meeting someone who becomes a good friend or casual acquaintance.
Christine Cook says:
I say…get over your selfie!

Agree with everyone. Was in Italy a few weeks ago and there are vendors on every corner selling them for about 3 euros. And very aggressively. People stand in the middle of the pathways blocking pedestrians as they pose or line up for their group selfies. In Venice, there were so many users you had to navigate around them. Never liked them but after this, yes, I think they should not be allowed in crowded public areas.
