You won! My question is…

Monday, June 29th, 2015

A few weeks ago I was talking with a colleague (KVD) and asking her for a blog topic. As she was thinking about the answer I looked over her shoulder and saw a bunch of company awards and quickly thought that is the next blog topic! You won – my question is… what was the last thing you won?

Was it:

  • A company award?
  • A lottery ticket?
  • A bingo game?
  • The dot race at your last baseball game?
  • A sports trophy from when you were a child?
  • Money at a casino?
  • A bet with a friend?
  • Something else?

Your turn:

You Won!

Time to take a quiz and the subject is who is the one person…

Friday, June 26th, 2015

I thought today’s Friday’s quiz would be a little different. It isn’t a multiple choice quiz but rather a quiz that involves “Who is the one person……”

Time to join me on Operation 30!

Wednesday, June 24th, 2015

I know you are probably wondering what this means? Is it a secret mission? Does the number 30 relate to age? No and no!

Are you like me and have way too many clothes? Do you tend to go shopping fairly often and rarely throw anything out? Well I am and finally got a little tired of looking at my closet and seeing a ton of clothes!

Take the Operation 30 challenge!

What I did was enter my closet and said I wasn’t leaving until I got rid of (donated) 30 different items! I didn’t care if the process would take 30 minutes or 5 hours, I wasn’t leaving the closet until I had 30 items that would no longer be in my wardrobe!

A few quick things – don’t be cute, a pair of socks and shoes is one item not two! When you enter the closet it makes sense to have a few trash bags to put all the items nice and neatly in!

I think you are ready! Please join me in Operation 30!

This took me 54 minutes because I found myself trying on a number of items. I donated a bunch of workout shorts and bathing suits and had a blast!

  • Please join me and let me know if you enjoyed the experience.
  • The oldest thing you donated was?
  • What were most items that you gave away?

I look forward to reading your comments.

Here is a little trick that can save you some time and aggravation!

Monday, June 22nd, 2015

A few weeks ago I was at a conference and had the pleasure of visiting my sister. On the way back to her house she called and asked if I would stop and buy Monopoly Empire for the kids. Of course I would do that and asked her where I could find it, quickly she googled it and told me the store and said the price online was $16.88. A quick good bye and I was on my way to the store.

I found the game with no problem but noticed the price was considerably lower than what my sister said and it gave me reason to pause. For some reason I decided to take a picture (perhaps because I was in the farthest part of the store away from the registers) of the item and the price just in case there was any issue at the register which unfortunately there was. I mentioned to the cashier that the price listed was $9.84 instead of the $19.84 she rang up (I assume whoever priced it just left off the 1), she asked me how I knew that and that she needed to see it – at which point I showed her the picture on my phone.

Case closed.

New price inserted into the register and I was on my merry way.

  • Have you tried this before?
  • Has it worked for you?
  • If not, do you think you will use it in the future?

There is nothing fun about this line!

Friday, June 19th, 2015

So there I am excited to have landed safely in a city for a quick weekend getaway and as I stand at the baggage claim watching the bags go round and round mine doesn’t appear! Yes it’s lost, misplaced, anywhere but with me! Yes I am foolish for checking the bag for a weekend trip but let’s get past that and yes my bag had a bright orange sticker on it saying priority which means it should go on the plane close to first and come off quickly (I am sure it did…just not in the city I was standing in).

What’s next is probably the worst part of any experience – a trip to baggage services and typically a line that appears to move at a snail’s pace! Today was no different, the line was long, the passengers weren’t happy, and yes the customer service people were all less than friendly.

As it turned out everything the customer service person said, promised, and believed didn’t happen. Frankly I don’t want to discuss that either. My question today is a different one –

  • What are the lines that you dread, fear, and hate the most?
  • What lines seem to have customer service people who aren’t the friendliest?

I look forward to reading your comments.

PS – My bag was found and not delivered to the hotel but rather I had to drive back to the airport at 6:00am to pick it up. With all that said I still had a great trip!

I Did It…although I am not sure I am proud of it…

As most of you know I am brand loyal. Well it appears that loyalty has paid off! Recently I received an email from American Airlines congratulating me on 2,000,000 miles on their airline!

Of course this got me thinking about different flights and experiences I have had:

  • I have had two emergency landings including one where a passenger (total stranger) sitting next to me was so scared she dug her nails into the top of my hand drawing blood!
  • Sat right next to Nolan Ryan on a flight to New York and didn’t want the flight to end!
  • Three times have had police officers come on the plane before they would let anyone off and arrest someone!

I could go on and on. A few things I have never experienced:

  • A yell for “is there a doctor on board”
  • Never had a celebrity get kicked off a flight for poor behavior
  • Never had passengers get unruly for being drunk or on drugs

Okay your turn

  • How many miles do you think you have flown in your life?
  • What are some of the more interesting or memorable experiences you have had?

Time for a quick and fun quiz on the NBA!

Monday, June 15th, 2015

I must admit I am loving the NBA finals. So many twists and turns, lots of story lines, great hustle and exciting finishes! I wanted to pay a little respect to the NB today and have a fun and quick quiz!

As always the quiz will be timed so no need to ask for help or search for the answers on the web!

Good Luck!

Dear Dad – this is all about you!

Friday, June 12th, 2015

With Father’s day only a few days away I thought today’s blog should be about our dads! A funny story, a great memory, and a few words that you would use to describe your father!

Here are a few of my greatest memories with my dad:

  • Going to game 7 of the 1975 world series – sitting in the 5th row and being one of the first people to run onto the field. Back in the day – you were allowed to do that!
  • Vacationing in Cape Cod for two weeks every summer!
  • Being chased around the house with a pool stick because I did something foolish and he didn’t appreciate!
  • The Sunday morning car ride to Sharon Mass to see our relatives.

Great times – my dad is about to celebrate another birthday so my hope is we will have many more great times together!

A few words that I would use to describe my dad:

  • Stoic
  • Hard-working
  • Over-achiever
  • Introvert

Okay your turn.

  • What are some of your favorite memories of your dad?
  • What words would you use to describe him?
  • Do you have any special events planned for the future?

I look forward to reading your comments!

PS – Thanks dad for everything. Without question I wouldn’t be who I am without everything you did and taught me! I love you!

NHL Stanley Cup playoffs – So what!….Does anyone care?

Wednesday, June 10th, 2015

Earlier this morning on the Mike & Mike show (ESPN radio) they were talking about the great comeback win the Chicago Blackhawks had over the Tampa Bay Lightning. I must admit I didn’t realize they had a game last night and frankly have no interest in watching it! Why is that? I love sports, excited to watch a baseball, football, or basketball game but hockey – no thanks!

Born and raised in Boston I grew up with the big bad Bruins! A fun team to watch and root for. Boston is home to one of the original 6 hockey teams and I still have no interest!

Am I alone in my thoughts? The ratings would suggest no!

  • Are you a hockey fan?
  • Do you have a favorite team?
  • Are you watching the Stanley cup finals?
  • What changes do you think hockey could make to increase fan interest, support, and attendance?

I look forward to reading your comments!

Time to learn a new word…Semordnilap

Monday, June 8th, 2015

A few weeks ago I was in a Florida bakery and noticed a very cute sign…Remember stressed spelled backwards means desserts. After chuckling for a few seconds I started to think about other words that when spelled backwards meant something else, and then I thought there had to be a word for words like that and of course there is which is Semordnilap – which means exactly what I thought….. A word or name that spells a different word backwards.

So let’s try and build a list of these types of words – I will start the ball rolling with a few:

  • Pals and Slap
  • Star and Rats

    Do you know any Semordnilaps?

I look forward to reading your comments!
